Renting Kitesurf, Wingfoil and Surf Gear in Essaouira: How It Works

If you already ride and you want to ride in Essaouira, traveling with your own gear is not always the easiest option. A kite bag is one of the most expensive items you can put on a plane. A surfboard takes up half a cabin if you take it onboard. A wingfoil setup with a foil and a large board is bulky to transport. For most riders coming for a few days or a couple of weeks, renting locally is the cleaner path.

Here is how rentals work in Essaouira, and what you actually get when you walk into our school space to pick up equipment.

What Gear Is Available#

We rent the full range across the three disciplines we teach:

  • Kitesurf: Kites, bars, lines, boards, harnesses
  • Wingfoil: Wings, boards, foils, harnesses
  • Surf: Surfboards across different sizes for different levels

The brands we run are the ones we believe in for the conditions on this coast:

  • Duotone for kitesurf
  • F-One for wingfoil
  • Zeus for surfboards

The gear is current-year stock, maintained daily by the team. Nothing patched together from three seasons ago, nothing rotated out because it should have been replaced.

You can check rental pricing and book through the equipment rentals page where pricing, insurance options, and durations are all laid out.

How Pickup and Return Works#

The system is simple. You come to our school space. You grab the gear you need. You use it. When you are done, you bring it back.

That is the whole flow. No depot across town, no waiting for delivery, no paperwork delays each day. The school is centrally located in Essaouira, walking distance from the medina and most accommodation. Pickup and return happen on your schedule.

If you rent for multiple days, the gear stays with you for the duration. You do not need to return it every evening unless you want to. Some riders prefer to drop it off at the end of each session, others keep it in their riad. Both work.

The Team on the Beach#

Renting from us is not just handing over gear and waving you off. The team is on the beach. If you need help launching or landing your kite, someone is there to assist. If you have never set up this specific brand before and the rigging looks different from what you are used to at home, someone walks through it with you.

This second part matters more than people think. We see it all the time: a rider who has been kiting for years arrives, opens the kite, and pauses. The bridle layout is different from their kite at home. The bar lines are routed in a way they have not seen. The chicken loop has a slightly different setup. Even experienced riders run into these moments when they switch to gear they have not used before.

When that happens, just ask. The team has set up every kite, wing, and board we rent hundreds of times. We get you rigged correctly the first time so you spend your session riding, not troubleshooting on the sand.

For first-time setups on rental gear specifically, this support is the difference between a session that starts on time and one that starts an hour late.

Why Rent in Essaouira Instead of Bringing Your Own#

A few practical reasons people choose local rentals:

No airline baggage fees. Kite bags often cost 50 to 150 EUR each way depending on the airline. Wingfoil and surf gear add similar costs. A few days of rental usually comes in well under what you would pay just to transport your own kit.

No risk of airline damage. Anyone who has flown with a kite or board knows the gamble. Rentals remove that variable.

Multiple sizes for different conditions. Essaouira's wind varies between seasons and from day to day. Having access to a 9m and a 12m as the wind shifts is easier when the gear is already at the school instead of in your bag at home.

Current-year equipment. You ride the latest production without the capital investment.

For trips of a week or less, the math almost always favors local rental. For longer stays, the balance shifts, but the convenience of always having the right setup for the day stays valuable.

Who Rentals Are For#

Rentals are for riders who can already operate independently in their discipline. That means:

  • For kitesurf: You can launch and land safely (or with an assistant), ride upwind, and self-rescue.
  • For wingfoil: You can handle the wing, balance on the board, and control the foil at low to moderate speeds.
  • For surf: You can paddle, catch waves, and manage yourself in the lineup.

If you are still learning any of these, lessons are the right starting point. Our wingfoil sessions in Essaouira, kitesurf sessions in Essaouira, and surf sessions in Essaouira all start from zero and build the skills you need before independent riding makes sense.

For riders transitioning from lessons to independent sessions, we can also bridge with supervised rentals so you build confidence before going fully solo. Just ask when you book.

What You Need to Know Before You Come#

To make the day smooth on your end, communicate a few things when booking:

  • Your weight and height (we use this to match kite and board sizes)
  • Your riding level
  • The dates you want gear
  • Any specific preferences (board type, kite size, surfboard length)

The team uses this info to have the right setup ready when you walk in. No wasted time sorting through gear on the morning of your first session.
